SCIENCE
YEAR 8

In Semester 1 students analyse the relationship between structure and function at cell, organ and body system levels; and provide evidence for observed chemical changes in terms of changing colour, heat, producing gas or a precipitate. They use appropriate scientific language, representations and simple word equations to communicate science ideas, methods and findings. They consider accuracy and ethics when planning investigations, including designing experimental methods.

In Semester 2 students investigate different forms of energy; explain how energy transfers and transformations cause change. They use a wave model to explain the properties of sound and use examples to illustrate how light forms images. They modify methods to improve the quality of their data and apply their scientific knowledge and investigation findings to evaluate claims made by others. They plan experiments, identify variables to be changed, measured and controlled; they apply their knowledge to suggest solutions to contemporary problems and consider the impact on society.

SCIENCE FACULTY

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.
