MUSIC - SONG WRITING AND ORCHESTRATION

Semester 1

Students build their proficiency on their chosen instrument/voice through opportunities to pursue solo and/or group rehearsals and performances. They begin setting their own musical goals, and demonstrate their progress through practice journals and put their skills on display at various school events. Students build on their aural and musicianship skills based on a variety of theory courses including AMEB and online platforms. They learn the art of composition, song writing and/or orchestration using software such as Sibelius and Soundtrap.

Students wishing to complete musical studies in future years, including VET Music in Grade 10, should complete a full year of music study in Year 9.

Please note: It is highly recommended that students undertake instrumental/vocal lessons throughout the year, and/or participate in a college choir or ensemble.

MUSIC - SONG WRITING AND MUSICIANSHIP

Semester 2

Students continue to build their proficiency on their chosen instrument/voice through performance opportunities and reflecting on their musical progress.

Students who have not completed Semester 1 of this course will be expected to catch up on the skills and knowledge taught in conjunction with completing the Semester 2 course.

Please note: It is highly recommended that students undertake instrumental/vocal lessons throughout the year, and/or participate in a college choir or ensemble.
