AGRICULTURAL STUDIES: ADVANCED FARMING AND
LIVESTOCK
YEAR 10
In this unit students study farming practices in both the agricultural and horticultural industry. Students develop knowledge and skills in the area of animal care and handling as well as livestock management. They gain an understanding of farming practices in the animal industry, including the use of farming machinery. Students consider the importance of the Horticultural Industry in Australia as well as the issues relating to production, sustainability and the environment. Students will be able to analyse an environment for its key factors and explain how to implement regenerative practices in the agriculture context.
AGRICULTURAL STUDIES: 2050 PROJECT – FEED THE WORLD
YEAR 10
In this unit students study the importance of the Australian agricultural and horticultural industry in relation to world food production. Students develop an understanding of the threats to production and the predicted needs of the world population in the future. Students also develop skills in monitoring the growth of livestock; particularly calves, as well as undertaking assessments of their health and recording production indicators. This unit will also introduce students to the selection of tree species and land use on farms and tree planting programs.
Psychology
YEAR 10
In this course students will investigate a range of in-depth areas of psychological study, including Forensic Psychology, Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology. Students will explore why Psychology is considered a science, the key foundations of psychological research as well as the ethical considerations that govern the study. Students will also undertake a Student-Directed Research Investigation on an area of Psychology which is of interest to them. The course will provide students with the opportunity to develop the key psychological skills and understanding to prepare them for Units 1-4 Psychology.
